As was the case for this shipment: We recently organized that more than 20 colli originating from two different loading addresses were consolidated and airfreighted to the Middle East. Using liner service? "No," says Dominik Ruckdeschel from our air freight team. "In this case, we organized a part charter. In view of the dimensions and weight, the single colli of the consignment could all have been loaded in liner service using freighters. However, as the shipment’s tonnage was rather large and because there was a large number of comparatively bulky packages, our experience said that the airlines would divide the shipment up into several part lots. The departure frequencies in liner services, the availability of equipment and – importantly – the wish to 'keep the shipment together' during transport, i.e. to transport it in one lot, let us to propose a part charter solution. With success."
"It is usually about ad-hoc solutions and what counts for our customers is speed and flexibility – and competent handling of the special cargo," says Dominik Ruckdeschel. "Like in this case. In view of time, it took us only two and a half days from loading at the departure factories to touchdown in the destination country – including security checks, setting up the air freight pallets, etc."
"It is really the question which solution best meets the needs of our customers and from which solution our customer can really benefit. Air freight is by far the most expensive intercontinental transport mode. Of course, this makes it all the more important for us to propose truly advantageous solutions to our customers – and at very short notice. To create these, we actually don't always have to go through the big HUBs with our solutions. Especially in the charter sector, the possibilities of European "side airports", for example, are also attractive."
